6 Ways To 200X Your LinkedIn Visibility Without Posting Content

As we wrap up our series on personal branding, let’s talk about an important aspect of personal branding - increasing your visibility.
Most people equate building a personal brand with creating content and I agree with that - content creation is an important piece of the puzzle.
I have been actively creating content for LinkedIn for about 3 years and I have had many opportunities come to me that I would otherwise missed out on.
However, I can also tell you that content creation is also time consuming and can be overwhelming.
It is unrealistic to churn out content on a daily basis while juggling multiple priorities.
If you are a beginner, job seeker, career transitioner, working full time while trying to build a business or balancing family and other commitments, finding the time to create content can be daunting.
It becomes even more discouraging when you spend so much time creating the perfect post and no one engages with it. This leads to giving up too soon.
Content creation is a big beast, and without a system in place, you will burn out - we want to avoid that at all costs.
You don't have to be a LinkedIn guru spending 8 hours a day on the platform.
Some people are able to churn out a tremendous amount of content because they have a team behind them or it's their full time job. Never compare yourself with others.
I have good news though - there's more to personal branding on LinkedIn than just content creation.
I recommend taking an iterative approach - start small, engage with other people’s posts, have conversations and gradually build up to creating your own content.
Here’s how:
1. Engage with Industry Leaders:
Identify leaders and content creators in your niche and follow them. Engage with their posts by leaving thoughtful comments. You may also repost other people’s content and make sure to give them credit for it. If you hit repost, you have the option to add your own thoughts to the post. Study their posts and start thinking about what you can learn and apply for your own purposes.
2. Personalized Connection Requests:
Make it a habit to send 1 - 2 personalized connection requests daily. Mention something specific about their profile or posts to start a meaningful conversation. This will help increase the likelihood of your connection request being accepted.
3. Celebrate Others:
Don’t just focus on your own achievements. When you see someone post a milestone, celebrate with them and congratulate them. This fosters goodwill and often leads to reciprocal engagement.
4. Participate in Conversations:
Instead of passive scrolling on LinkedIn, actively comment on posts that resonate with you. First start by acknowledging the post and reiterating the core message, then add your own insights, tips or personal experience. It is okay to have a contrary opinion but share your contribution in a respectful manner and avoid confrontational words.
5. Strategic Networking:
Focus on quality over quantity. Don’t just collect numbers. Aim to have one conversation per day in the DM. If you are new to networking and don't know how to break the ice, I put together these networking scripts to help you have conversations. Ask for advice, not for a job. Don't pitch someone the first time you reach out - it's a massive turn off.
6. Stay Consistent:
Dedicate a small portion of your day, even just 15 minutes, to LinkedIn. Consistency is key to building and maintaining your presence. Find a time that works for you - early morning, in the afternoon or in the night.
Consistency is key. Engage a little every day, and you'll see your visibility on LinkedIn grow. Start small, and as you get more comfortable, you can gradually step into content creation.
Summary of the key takeaways:
Set Realistic Goals and Expectations: Adapt your LinkedIn strategy to fit your schedule and circumstances and focus on what’s manageable for you.
Start with Engagement: Start by engaging with others' posts, leaving thoughtful comments, and participating in discussions.
Quality Over Quantity in Networking: Prioritize building genuine relationships over collecting a large number of connections/followers.
